So what do namespaces and playlists have to do with each other? Nothing of course. I am just mixing a short note that PHP 5.3 alpha3 is still delayed because of the lack of a decision on how namespaces are supposed to work, with one more genius idea I want to get published, before some idiot goes to patent town with it (though I heard that if someone is quick enough one can even get a legal patent of something that has been published shortly before a patent submission was made). So todays topic are playlists, or rather what I shall label "semi-manual continuous playlists".
I usually listen to my music in shuffle mode. However I also tend to skip songs a lot depending on my mood. Since I listen to music all day, I go through quite a number of songs in a day. Also I do own quite a ton of songs, a fair number of songs end up forgotten, but none the less still liked. I use iTunes (not because I like it, but its just so happily integrated into OS X .. yeah Apple gets away with sucky apps because of the integration), which just got the Genius feature. But my mood "swings" too quickly to make it sensible for me to stick with a selection of songs based on one song for more than 2-3 songs.
So what I want instead is something a bit different. The idea is that I can set a playlist to automatically be filled up to lets say 25 songs. When a song is played or skipped its removed and so new songs are added at the end. Of course I can also manually remove songs, manually add songs (in which case the song should be added to be played as the next song after the current one and kicking out the last song at the end, since we are limiting ourselves to 25). I can of course also reorder the songs. In this sense I can just let my music player do its magic. But when I need a mental break or some specific music, I can spend a few seconds managing the next 10-20 mins of music manually. Maybe some player out there already has this feature. If so let me know .. otherwise dear music player developers, feel free to implement :)
I think Amarok has this feature, or at least something very similar:

Hey Lukas,
just try the party jukebox feature, really fits your description I'd say
Haha cool. I had party shuffle disabled in iTunes. So I guess its all there. I am feeling a bit like when I discovered one of the binominal formulae back in high school :)
Thx for the hints!
Have you tried iTunes Party Shuffle playlist? From what I can gather this is what you are looking for...
