Rasmus recently kicked off, what will likely become the largest thread in PHP history. Essentially he came up with a list of changes he would like to see in PHP 6. This has opened the floodgates on feature wishes. I hope poor Steph will somehow manage to fit all of these into a Zend weekly summary. As the stream of new suggestions is slowly dying down Zeev stepped up to remind people that "Compatibility breakup is not binary, it accumulates". I very much agree with him on this point.

Follow up on hotspots
Admitedly I am not yet MySQL certified. So my last post was more based on knowledge of DBMS in general. A few people have noted that the issues described in my previous post might not apply to the InnoDB table handler. So I will need to research this a bit. Actually I am planning to become MySQL certified and so its quite handy that the new certification guide is to be released on august 19th.

Hotspots and how to avoid them
The other day a discussion in #mysql on freenode developed concering possible issues arising from using auto increment on primary key fields due to the danger of hotspots. Since I am currently preparing a new talk first to be held at php|works on SQL performance tuning I thought that the topic would make for a perfect warming up post on the general topic.

LiveUser realizes it has documentation
Well when ever people talk about integrating LiveUser into their project they usually at some point ask: "where is the documentation?" Or worse they say "I wasted hours to get this stuff working, it looks promising but I gave up".

Yes, this is it! This is my first real personal homepage. Ironic that I have been developing PHP, once called personal homepage, for over 5 years now and never really had a personal homepage of my own. However previously the websites I created where mostly for customers. Some web pages were created together with friends of co-workers.
