Unfortunately my talk proposal for ZendCon 08 was not accepted, which means that I will not have the opportunity to present the vision behind emPHPower at another North American conference this year. Which is a great pity. I was specifically hoping to go to ZendCon 08 because it has a more business oriented focus than other conferences, which would have been a great opportunity to talk to some people about emPHPower that maybe do not read planet-php.org.
Now at the same time every "crisis" is an opportunity. In this case the opportunity is that I am (or the community) is forced to find someone else to step up and spread the word. So I am hereby calling out to the community and speakers at North American conferences to try and integrate emPHPower discussions as "official" birds of feather or lightning talks. Alternatively steering the discussion on to this topic at dinner or lunch is also a viable approach to get the word out.
Actually lets make this call a big larger, I call out to all the PHP UGs in the world to talk about emPHPower and blog about their views, concerns, ideas. If you are a member of a large PHP project, also consider to get feedback from its user community. Now I have gotten a lot of mail from people that have said emPHPower is a good idea and they are ready to help. This is where you can help! Like I have said all along, this thing must be way way way bigger than just me.
I will try to port this question to the forthcoming PhpCamp in Paris this saturday...
With such a mission statement for the project :
"emPHPower is a mediator and catalyst that empowers members of the community to follow their own ideas"
Did you really expect your speak would have been accepted at the ZendCon? My god Lukas, you are so naive :)
@Bertrand: Call me naiv, but I do think that Zend would appreciate it if the community would take over the bulk of the evangelization efforts. But I think that my talk on the Doctrine ORM was not enough to entice them to put down the money to get me there. I should have submitted a few more talks to give them more options.
I have submitted a proposal for a BoF on emPHPower for OSCON.
regarding this, myself and a few other members of the Irish PHP Users Group are working on translating the AFUP's (Association Franšaise des Utilisateurs de PHP) Whitebook to English.
(PHP Quebec had done some work on this but we found their translation wasn't fully complete and out of sync with the more recent version of the AFUP Whitebook)
We hope to have this complete in time for the Irish Opensource Technology Conference (http://iotc.firstport.ie/ ) which starts on June 18th and will make it available on the php.ie website shortly afterwards.
Ideally we would like to have it added to a centralised location/website for the [global] promotion of php - I think this is where emphpower could come in/get involved with us.
Sure, I love the idea. Not yet sure where to best put it for now though, since there is no emPHPower organization for now. Putting it on emPHPower.org would be fine with me, but emPHPower is only a working title vision. But in general this is exactly the kind of stuff I hope to see done within the organization or at the least infrastructure provided for outside efforts.
