While looking at the RoundCube source I stumbled over the use of PEAR::DB. True enough they had added their own wrapper around DB to work around its deficiencies. One of it was getting the last insert ID. Another one was the use of NOW() in their SQL commands.

Google has made my life a lot easier. I have been on the net long before Google began to make a splash. So I remember the days where searches either resulted close to nothing, nothing relevant or forced you through a world of blinking, bundled products and other stuff intentionally thrown at you, that had no relevance to your search.

The past few weeks there has been quite a lot of activity on the MDB2 familiy of packages. There have been a number of internals improvements that should make the package more robust. We also added a getConnection() method that returns a native connection ressource. While the main reason for adding this method was internal, it may also enable people to do some work on the native API using the same connection as in MDB2.

I just spammed 10 new releases into the wild. For LiveUser these were just minor updates. The MDB2 and MDB2_Schema releases were much more major albeit not as far fetching as I originally hoped. However these releases should work better than the previous and most importantly should not emit errors in PHP 4.4.x and 5.0.5. I also noted the key todo items in each of the MDB2 package's in the changelog.

I have started to get into an MDB2 hacking frenzy. This is not necessarily a good idea as I have tons of writing to do. Oh well I guess I will have to get into a writing frenzy soon as well.
