In my quest to become the best DJ in the world .. ok lets say in my quest to have fun DJing .. I got engaged in the DJTT community and want ti give back a bit for all the help, advice and most importantly motivation I got from these guys with a bit of coding. I have 3 tasks I want to complete. Two of them deal with additions to the forum and the other one to encourage more blogging in the scene to share ideas and tipps.
The first one is making it possible for people in the forum to add their geo location as well as a few bits of information. The locations would then get mapped out on google maps along with a way to filter based on the provided additional information. They are using vBulletin right now. It seems there is a large community of plugins, but given the proprietary nature of vBulletin they make it needlessly hard to play around with things. The other project is creating a planet for RSS feeds for all things relevant for digital DJs. The last one is once again something for the forum. We want to use the calendar to make it possible for people to promote their events. The idea being they can create a forum post in a custom format and that this would automatically create an event in the calendar. The information would update itself if the post gets edited. For now I am planning to keep scavenging the vBulletin pluging forums and building the planet off of the planet-php sources. So if anyone can give me some recommendations for any of the above I would be greatful. Helping hands would also be appreciated.
I also want to again mention the freenode channel #digitaldj for anyone who wants to get more immediate feedback on their questions around digital DJing.
I always wanted to DJ, but I never found the time to do it. The necessary hardware is also a problem for me, as I am a Linux only user.
Richie Hawtins latest usage of Traktor and the Traktor/Twitter application made me look into it again.
But instead of learning to DJ I wrote a small website http://sets.krass.com/ to collect Richies set information and display them slightly different.
Being a Traktor user, I am quite excited at what seems to becoming possible. While Richie's solution is currently based on custom coding, the next version of Traktor Pro will make this a native feature. However to me the big news is more that NI is finally starting to let Traktor talk a bit to the outside world, which spawned the following idea of an "iTunes Genius" like feature for Traktor I posted on the DJTT forums.
