A while ago I have hinted at some big news for me. Well its finally time I announce them: I have reduced my workload at Liip to 80%. Since all I really spend money on is Frisbee tournaments (which are not that expensive), I have decided I can afford myself this luxury. However playing even more Frisbee is not something my body can take and without a new hobby I would surely just end up sitting in front of the computer coding. So I have thought about the things I have enjoyed in recent times but did not get the time to follow up on and then I realized that I always had a lot of fun filling in as a DJ (even if just using my cellphone) at Frisbee parties when the DJ went home too early or bored the crowd with non danceable stuff.
After research things a bit I realized that this could indeed become a really fun hobby and its not even that expensive to get some really top notch hardware and software. So I am hereby announcing my new blog for all things related to my ventures into the world of digital DJing. I also invite all PHPers interested in digital DJing to join me in the newly created IRC channel: irc://freenode/#digitaldj
What kind of Frisbee tournaments? Ultimate? Freestyle? I play disc golf myself.
Ultimate .. every easter there is the Paganello beach tournament in Rimini. I guess about 1000 Ultimate players and 500 Freestyler. I have played disc golf at a few occasions and I guess once I finally bust my knee I can see myself switching until then I prefer the action and the team spirit in Ultimate :)
Yes, several of our best local golfers are former Ultimate players that could not take the wear and tear anymore. I was beaten up by high school football (american) before I discovered disc sports. Never stood a chance at Ultimate.
Good luck with the gig,
I'm a fellow Digital DJing, PHP developer. There are a few, maybe in part because where I was recently working at beatport.com the whole back end is PHP.
Hope you have fun!
@Sam: Thx .. I am also pondering putting together a planet of all blogs dedicated to digital DJing .. interested?
BTW: I hope that Beatport reconsiders using so much flash for the login and download. It prevents me from using a password and download manager. I already filed a request with them, but maybe you still have contacts to talk some sense into them. I also ran into issues searching for akapellas for remixing. I ended up finding a lot of tracks that are not akapellas at all.
